Look at Joseph Smith, L Ron Hubbard, Mary Baker Eddy, Claude Vorilhon, Elizabeth Clare Prophet...even Hitler*. The list goes on. All charismatic figures without much formal education who founded quasi-religious cults. All wrote voluminously - many about aliens and the like.
