The Chicago Fed national activity index in October came in at -1.08, and this represented a continued deterioration from -1.01 in September, -0.63 in August and -0.37 in July. Maybe we are now into the ‘double dip’ because according to the Chicago Fed, any figure worse than -0.70 signals economic contraction.
